The King Sun Room

Stories News The King Sun Room

Staged by Pierre Gonalons, an exclusive collaboration bringing together the exceptional savoir-faires of Vis-A-Vis, Pierre Frey, Paradiso Terrestre and The Invisible Collection

We are happy to present the second edition of An Interior Designer’s Bedroom in collaboration with VIS-A-VIS, the ultra-luxurious hand embroidered linen supplier, situated on Motcomb Street in London.

Following the successful project by Jérôme Faillant-Dumas, which has now moved to the Parisian showroom of VIS-À-VIS, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, we have appointed the young and prominent product, interior designer and creative director, Pierre Gonalons, to take over the space to showcase his vision of a luxurious and contemporary bedroom; a modern interpretation of a royal room in Versailles.

Gonalons’ key inspiration for this stunning set-up stems from the incredibly successful Big Biba store in London and its Art Deco interior, reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hollywood. The designer soughts to create an atmosphere that is  heavily influenced by the 70s, drawing from both Classicism and Pop Art.

Additionally, in keeping with the inspiration behind many of his pieces, Gonalons was very much motivated by the theme of the sun. As a tribute to Jacques Emile Ruhlmann, the designer presents his Sun headboard; handmade by elite beds in Switzerland and available on theinvisiblecollection.com.

Gonalons also designed a collection of hand embroidered Sun King sheets, drawn exclusively for VIS-À-VIS and sold on theinvisiblecollection.com. Named after louis XIV, the designer found inspiration from the drawings on the irons of Versailles and the extraordinary costume of the Sun King himself.

The designer also chose to debut a selection of new pieces of furniture and lamps, from his with historical and cultural references throughout. Among the stunning graphic and minimal pieces that can be found on theinvisiblecollection.com, a selection of lights including Sunset, which develops from a bird cage to a lamp, Empire that reinterprets passementerie and Loge that evokes the lamps from the 1900’s on which one used a scarf to sieve the light.

Additionally, Pierre Gonalons will present the pieces he has newly designed for Paradiso Terrestre: the Other Side rug and the Other Side mirror. As exclusive distributor in the uk, we are delighted to showcase other iconic reedition pieces of the italian manufacturer : the Naeko armchair, and the Mantilla sofa.

Beautiful collaboration spirit : Pierre Gonalons has designed the ‘Fiori’ fabric, manufactured by Pierre Frey, to recover the Mantilla sofa, as a tribute to the Gavina family, with whom he shares a passion for the 70s.

Are also presented throughout the 400m2, pieces by a selection of other interior designers including Reda Amalou and Jérôme Faillant-Dumas, accessories by Raphael Thomas Editions, Marc Ange’s Chimère pet collection and Federica Tondato’s chain stitch embroidered rugs.

Isabelle Dubern, co-founder of The Invisible Collection, says of the collection, “Pierre Gonalons is one of the young designers who charmed us from the first weeks of The Invisible Collection with his talent, kindness, creative universe and vast knowledge. Pierre proposed us several rooms, all in a very dreamlike style. We are delighted to also be working with pierre for our first collaboration with La Maison Pierre Frey, an exemplary family brand.”

Gonalons comments on the project, ‘Not only have i designed my first collection of bed linen for vis-à-vis, it is also an excellent opportunity for me to showcase my new works, that i would qualify as graphic, poetical, minimal yet baroque’.
