Pad It Out

Returning to Berkeley Square once again, this time with 67 leading international galleries including 11 newcomers, PAD London has become a magnet for the most discerning international collectors of fine art and design over the last decade. A beautifully boutique exhibition, PAD’s highly navigable and sensitively lit showcase features a collection of masterpieces across different disciplines and periods including 20th Century modern furniture, tribal art, glassware and other decorative arts.

This year the contemporary design game was raised, with two prominent Milanese galleries – DIMOREGALLERY and Orlandi – each adding a diverse range of eclectic pieces. DIMOREGALLERY, alongside a superb collection of vintage and contemporary items, introduced wonderful new works from the world-renowned design duo Brit Moran and Emiliano Salci. Orlandi’s virtual AnotherView window onto Venice, also on display, is simply mesmerising.

Alexandre Biaggi made an impact showcasing items by French Designer Marc du Plantier and a stunning lamp produced by Alberto Giacometti in collaboration with French interior designer Jean-Michel Frank.

Sarah Myerscough brought new works from artists including Christopher Duffy, Ernst Gamperl and Nic Webb. Webb’s installation – “Group of Five” – was a show-stopper containing a range of striking elm and stoneware vessels.

This year Avant-Scène are celebrating 31 years at the head of collectible design and to celebrate have introduced special commissions by Hubert Le Gall, Franck Evennou, Elizabeth Garouste and Mark Brazier-Jones. Another Paris gallery – Mouvements Modernes – presented a panorama of iconic pieces from artists including Matthew Chambers and Martin Szekely.

Returning for another year, Rose Uniacke also won the Best Stand award with a striking collection including the amazing woven sea-grass armchairs by Frits Schlegel. Jorge Zalszupin’s spectacular Presidencial Armchairs were on display with Galerie Le Beau, which also received the Winning 20th Century Design award with the Lounge Chair by Brazilian designer Jose Zanine Caldas.

Co-founder of The Invisible Collection and member of the PAD’s jury, Anna Zaoui, reveals that The Winning Contemporary Design Award went to Galerie Gosserez with the breathtaking Banc d’Angle (Corner Bench) made from charred oak and copper and designed by German designer Valentin Loellmann.
