Mayaro Editions, the up and coming furniture editor with an eye for beautifully crafted, original designs, joins The Invisible Collection with an original series of one-of-a-kind pieces. Founded two years ago by a trio of entrepreneurs passionate about the great tradition of French crafts and rare savoir-faire, the brand has already launched an eclectic collection of furniture, presented in its three-storey gallery in the heart of Paris Rive Gauche.
Scouting great talents and matching them for specific projects has become the hallmark of Mayaro, striving to bring together the best avant-garde designers with the most skilled artisans. The textile weaver, the wood sculptor, the wicker artisan, the stone carver, the hand-fan maker and the cabinetmaker, are all invited to dialogue together and nurture mutual inspiration. At the core of each project lies the exceptional art of the hand paired with the most whimsical creativity.
For this first collection, aptly named Crafts Editions, the Parisian brand has called upon a group of designers and fine artisans with a French touch. Godefroy de Virieu – currently the artistic director of “Petit h” by Hermès- and Stefania di Petrillo worked together to conceive some poetic pieces inspired by imaginary travels: a balloon in the sky, a trip to Saturn, a walk in a chestnut forest, a visit to a jeweller’s atelier. The cabinetmaker IOTA Element constructed some intriguing designs, among which the Suspended Bookcase, an architectural element in wood and metal that can hide or reveal a secret window. Renowned weaver Frédérique Lamagnère reinterpreted the folding screen, and the revered house of Duvelleroy created a series of ethereal yet luxurious feather hand-fans.
Mixing natural, almost raw materials such as wicker and wood, with leather and rusted metal, each piece is made-to-measure and bespoke, handcrafted in the greatest tradition of French savoir-faire, and bound to become even more beautiful with the patina of time.
