Background

Laurent Nicolas attended the Olivier de Serres Design School in Paris, specialising in ceramics. From early on, his work has been characterised by a curiosity towards materials and the various techniques that guide his creative process. Laurent turned towards furniture design after getting his diploma in Applied Arts at the renowned Duperré School of Art, during which he changed scale from ceramics to larger objects and space. He then undertook various interior design projects. Meanwhile, Laurent’s work also focused on luxury leather-goods, a field which has further enabled him to expand his knowledge of material development and traditional craftsmanship.

Signature style

His absolute focus on details and finishings continue to define his work, as he explores more abstract themes and and dedicates more time to one-off pieces, working with natural stone, clay and wood. With these installations and sculptures he is questioning nature’s role and force in our lives and our environments.
