Career
His antique dealer father paved the way for his passion for Decorative Arts. After studying law for several years in Paris, he changed direction: becoming an artist and designer. At the beginning of the 1980’s, Olivier Gagnère met the cult Italian designer Ettor Sottsass and worked with the Memphis Group in Italy, a milestone in his career as a designer. Today, his work features in national and international collections of the world’s most prominent museums.
Signature Style
Sober, elegant and imaginative, his vases, ceramics, glass, furniture and table ware, push aside the limitations of the ordinary and create a new aesthetic balance. An aesthetic where the classical is reinvented with his own flair, allowing him a unique place in the world of contemporary design. Using influences from all over the world, and sculptural geometry, Olivier Gagnère plays with form and colour, to create an equilibrium between simplicity and sophistication.
He loves
Stretching the technical limitations of materials, expanding creative boundaries in the quest for new shapes. Whether it is ceramics, crystal, metal, wood, fur, glass, porcelain, earthenware, or mixed clays, he explores and experiments with them to create new shapes, contours and volumes.
Showstoppers
The boundary pushing transversality of his work. Ceramicist, Glassmaker, Cabinet maker, Interior Architect, Interior Designer, and Designer, his work reflects his love of Decorative Arts and the ongoing play between tradition and modernity.
