Serge Castella

While studying fashion in Paris, Serge Castella spends his time wandering around flea markets and the Louvre. Becoming an antique dealer then becomes evident. He leaves his urban lifestyle unhesitatingly to go back to his Spanish roots where he starts his agency in 2006 with Jason Flinn. Including unique and hand-crafted works in a setting they don’t clash with is his signature style. His golden rule: that the object keeps existing on its own, sober and significant. Historical reconstitutions do not interest him, on the contrary, he harmoniously integrates objects of diverse periods. A confession: mixing antiquities and XXe century designs always works.

Background

While studying fashion in Paris, Serge Castella spent his time wandering flea markets and around the Louvre: no wonder he decided to start his career off dealing in antiques. After leaving the city for his native Spanish countryside, he begins advising his international on selecting furniture and objects, and on decorating tips… In 2006 he launches his design studio with Jason Flinn.

Signature style

Unique, hand-crafted designs impeccably executed. His golden rule: “the object must stand on its own, sober yet significant”. He has no interest in historical reconstitutions; he rather prefers to integrate pieces from diverse periods. His best kept secret: mix antiques and twentieth century designs, you can never go wrong!

He loves

Entering a place for the first time and thinking of what the final result will look like. Letting his work be influenced by the country, region and house he’s in. Dalí for Cadaqués, his espadrilles, his talent and freedom. Giacometti and Picasso for their love for the South, their simplicity and their talent that inspire him very much.

Showstoppers

Castella adds a poetic touch to all of his projects; he masters unexpected combinations of natural wood, plaster, and unpolished ceramics with objects full of character that he meticulously selects, thus achieving timeless interiors, made even more sophisticated by the harmonious colour palettes of his fabrics. We love the Jacqueline Sofa.
