The Invisible Collection celebrates Brazilian design by launching a new collaboration with ETEL.

The Invisible Collection’s team will be in Milano during Salone del mobile to announce an exciting collaboration with ETEL, the undisputed guardian and ambassador of the Brazilian design culture. On April 9th, the international crowd gathering in the Milanese design district, will have the opportunity to preview some iconic pieces of furniture that will then travel to our showroom in London.

This is the first time that The Invisible Collection will introduce in its contemporary collection a selection of re-editions: given the iconic status of each re-edited piece, it was impossible to resist! There is something about Brazilian aesthetic that is distinctly unique and compelling. We love the sensual lines, the timeless shapes, the strong artisanal feel, the exceptional varieties of wood and their textures… adding the Brazilian masters of modernism to our roster of contemporary designers is our own way of starting a conversation and introducing timeless iconic pieces to our informed clientele.

Since its inception, ETEL has been producing furniture signed by renowned designers and artists, becoming the only Brazilian company reediting the country’s best modernist furniture, thus contributing to preserve and cherish this legacy. By applying a strict methodology, faithfulness to the originals, and intensive collaboration with the institutes and families that represent each creator’s oeuvre, ETEL has been re-editing iconic pieces by Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalszupin, Sergio Rodrigues, to name a few.

During the event in Milano, there will be a special focus on José Zanine Caldas celebrating his centenary with “Zanine (R)Evolution. A story by ETEL”, an exhibition curated by ETEL. Zanine was a self-taught designer, who started working as an architectural models constructor, catering for the likes of Lúcio Costa, Oswaldo Arthur Bratke and Oscar Niemeyer. He also opened a design studio, the “Móveis Artísticos Z” where he conceived some modernist influenced furniture collections, embracing a new movement of affordable design for the middle class. He also built dozens of houses, favouring natural materials and advocating for the preservation of the environment. Somewhat forgotten, design connoisseurs (re)discover today his signature style of sensual yet strong pieces, made in magnificent wood.

Following the Milan event, The Invisible Collection will introduce a selection of the most significant furniture pieces by José Zanine Caldas, including the iconic mc2 coffee table from 1950 and the zc desk, beautifully carved from ipe (brazilian walnut) wood. Some of these outstanding pieces will then travel to London and will be on display in our showroom, on view by appointment only.

Stay tuned for more standout signature pieces coming soon on The Invisible Collection. Here is a sneak peek of the JZ Tea Trolley, a Brazilian masterpiece by Jorge Zalszupin… This emblematic piece was designed in 1959, and it still stands beautifully the test of time.

ETEL

ETEL’s design collection comprises one century of Brazilian furniture. With its pioneering re-edition work, ETEL brings back graceful designs of the modern Brazilian production, discovered only recently, and now considered as one of the most relevant worldwide for that period. Pieces characterised by skilful handiwork and the use of exquisite materials were created by architects and artists intent on unveiling the local culture, under the influence of the international avant-garde. This retrieval is based on a strict methodology, faithfulness to the originals, and intensive collaboration with the institutes and families that represent each creator’s oeuvre. The collection includes pieces by Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalszupin, Giuseppe Scapinelli, among others.
