Career. A graduate of the Ecole Boulle, Erwan Boulloud stands out thanks to his unique know-how. After working for numerous designers like Hubert Le Gall and Hervé Van Der Straeten, and after creating the scenography for famous museums such as the Louvre, the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers and the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, he opened his own studio in 2003 and began developing his own collections.
Signature Style. A poet with materials, his exceptional furniture, one-off pieces and limited editions, bring together art and techniques to perfection. Furniture and lighting, invite the use of wood, concrete and metal, applied in various ways; raw, polished, mat, scorched, chiselled. His work approaches that of sculpture, art furniture that is sometimes whimsical but never loses its functional purpose.
He loves. Working and exploring materials without limitations in order to really discover their capabilities. According to him “Beyond aesthetics, a piece works through it’s capacity to continue being relevant for future generations” – Furniture need to convey meaning.
Showstoppers. For his sublimely curved brass pieces where the surface is sculpted with waves and inlaid with lapis lazuli or rock crystal. Particular mention for his metal wall lamps which create a play of light and shadow that is incomparable.
What’s up. The completion of the restaurant Adjugé at the auction house Drouot in Paris for which he created the facade of the bar in brass incrusted with precious stones. More than ever, the artist is working on one-off pieces which generate keen interest from collectors.
