Product Description

The desk design presented here was specially made for a client’s iconic apartment. This apartment had been designed in 1929 by Pierre Chareau for Mrs Fahri. Not much of his work had survived. The assignment here was to eliminate what did not have its place in this poetic and highly eccentric flat overlooking a garden square. The intervention was major, but surgical and respectful of Chareau’s magically evocative ideas and uniqueness. The desk design is a ‘clin d’oeil’ to the architect, and also to Palladio whose San Giorgio Maggiore, the owners favourite church, is printed on the surface. The wood used is a precious rosewood, a Chareau favourite, and the top is interchangeable with any image requested – as long as it is aesthetically pleasing….

Gael Camu

Gael Camu

Born and raised in Paris, Gael Camu studied architecture in the United States and has been working in London since 1988. Her projects are infused with modernity without being contemporary or overly designed. “I like to play with geometry and space in a classic sense. Everything is a question of balance and proportions.” For Gael Camu, luxury meets asceticism, playfulness meets a certain kind of severity. Simplicity is always a synonym for an almost monastic elegance.
