Everything begins in 1989 when Isabel Marant launches ‘‘Twen’’, her first brand of knits and jerseys, at the age of 22. In 1995, she and her friends play the role of mannequin for her own brand for the first time in the courtyard of a squat. Only three years later, she opens her first shop in a former artist studio. The Rue de Charonne is still today the historic adress in the Bastille district. Twenty-five years and forty-four shops later, everything has changed and at the same time nothing has changed. Her vision remains the same. Indeed, her fashion vision has always been a fix idea. When she was a child of eleven years old, she already knew exactly what she wanted and what she didn’t want to wear. When she was a teenager, she stood out against diktats and created her own figure from revisited military jackets or pullovers of her father. Her travelling and living fashion and texture taste will take her to the Berçot Studio, and will never let her go. If some fantasize about iconic-women on gloss paper, Isabel dress them for the daily life to go off on scooter or walk in the street. No piece leave her studio unless she tries it. She supports from the beginning the hand-made and fights, collection after collection, for the survival of the savoir-faire. This is what she calls her ‘‘clothe ecology’’. Isabel Marant from Paris, from New-York or Hong-Kong remains faithful to her ideals as well as to her collaborators and accomplices, with whom she has worked from the very beginning.
