Leaf Wall Lamp By Osanna Visconti

Stories Editor's Pick Leaf Wall Lamp By Osanna Visconti

They say that tree leaves are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven… Osanna Visconti found a way to bring a quotation from that ongoing dialogue into the home. Her stunning “Leaf” collection of wall lamps is the most poetic homage to nature’s beauty, and a very original way to create one-of-a-kind designs that celebrate the “fleeting moment”.

Whenever she sees a beautiful leaf that inspires her, Osanna will pick it and immortalise it in its tiniest details, through the complex technique of lost-wax casting. This painstaking work is all the more demanding as it is time sensitive: the leaf’s model in wax must be mould before the leaf dries out and becomes too fragile and breakable. Moreover, the whole process needs extremely careful handling of the leaf and of the liquid wax, as its hot temperature might alter the leaf’s venation. Once the wax model is made, Osanna can then proceed to duplicate it by casting it in bronze.

Each piece is unique by its own nature, and bears the botanical name of the original model.

Besides Osanna’s favorite tree leaves – including Alocasia, Quercifoglia and Aralia – customers too can ask for a specific type of leaf that has a special meaning to them…
